What has been done so Cardhigher can be used with a keyboard and a screen reader, what has been checked, and what we know is still not right.

Commitment and scope

The technical target is WCAG 2.2 at level AA. This commitment covers all of cardhigher.com: the game, the leaderboard, settings and the legal pages.

It does not cover third-party content shown inside it, specifically the card images, over whose design Cardhigher has no control.

Conformance status

Partially conformant. No external audit or formal third-party evaluation has been carried out, so full conformance is not claimed: only what has been checked is stated.

What has been checked so far, by manual and automated review: that the whole site can be navigated and used with a keyboard, including playing; that focus is always visible; that there is a skip link to the content; that each page has a single main heading and levels are not skipped; that regions are marked up; that icon-only buttons have accessible names; that decorative images are hidden from screen readers and informative ones carry a description; that text contrast meets the required ratio; and that the system preference for reduced motion is respected.

Known limitations

The game is visual by nature: a round consists of comparing a number printed on a card image. That number is in the image and not in text, so equivalent play with a screen reader is not possible. Each card’s accessible description gives its name, not its values. We do not know a way to solve this without giving up hiding the value, which is the whole game.

Card images contain text inside the image itself, which does not meet the images-of-text criterion. They are third-party content and cannot be replaced with real text.

It has not been evaluated with every combination of browser and assistive technology, nor by users with disabilities.

How to report a problem

If something does not work for you, write it through the feedback button on every screen. It asks for no email and needs no account. Say which screen it was and what you were using, if you can.
