Cardhigher
Cardhigher is a higher or lower game played with trading card game cards. Two cards come up, one with a value hidden, and you guess which of the two is higher. It runs free in the browser and needs no account.
How to play
You pick a game and which value to compare: a Magic card’s mana cost, a Pokémon’s HP, a Yu-Gi-Oh! monster’s attack, the market price of any of them.
One card sits on the table with its number showing, and the challenger has that same number hidden. You click whichever you think is higher. Get it right and the new card takes the table and another one arrives: the streak goes up. Get it wrong and the run is over.
Ties count as correct. There are no lives, no hints and no clock.
Six card games
28,178 cards in total, each with the values printed on it and its market price.
Where the numbers come from
Cardhigher decides none of them. The data comes from each game’s public databases — Scryfall for Magic, the Pokémon TCG API, YGOPRODeck, the OPTCG API, Lorcast and SWU-DB — and the prices are the market prices those same sources publish.
Every mode says underneath where its number comes from and how current the prices are. When a value is not printed on the card, like Commander popularity, that is stated too.
The answer is not in the page
The server deals the rounds: the hidden card’s value does not reach the browser until after you have chosen. Opening the inspector gets you nothing, which is the difference between a guessing game and a looking game.
That is why the leaderboard means something. Every streak is submitted with a signed receipt and the table stores what the server dealt, not the number the browser claims.
Free, no account, no tracking
No sign-up, no email, no password. Your best streak and your preferences stay in your browser; getting on the leaderboard just takes typing a name when the run ends.
Frequently asked questions
- What is Cardhigher?
- A browser game of higher or lower played with cards from six trading card games: Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Disney Lorcana and Star Wars: Unlimited. It compares real card data, from mana cost to market price.
- Is it free?
- Yes, all of it. Nothing to pay and nothing to unlock, and no ad network: no ads that follow you, no cookies. There are links to Amazon for cards and accessories, and those may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. And a button to buy a coffee, entirely optional.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is no sign-up and no email. Your best streak lives in your browser, and getting on the leaderboard just takes typing a name when the run ends.
- How does higher or lower with cards work?
- Two cards from the same game are shown. One has its number visible and the other has it hidden, and you decide whether the hidden one is higher or lower. Right and you carry on; wrong and it ends. Ties count as correct.
- How does the leaderboard work?
- There is one table per mode holding the fifty longest streaks. Each device takes a single row, with its best streak, so playing more does not get you more of the table. Runs with the year filter on are left out, because a smaller pile is an easier pile.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes, and that is how most people play it: one card above the other, tap the one you think is higher. Nothing to install.
- What if I do not know the card game?
- It still works. Every mode explains which number it is comparing and most of the values are visible on the card itself. The price modes need no knowledge of the rules at all.
